Internment Service

An interment service is a brief, usually smaller gathering at the graveside or columbarium or VPC Memorial Garden where the body or ashes are committed to their final resting place in prayer. In contrast to a memorial service, which is a fuller worship service of remembrance and celebration of the resurrection, an interment focuses specifically on the act of committal. It often includes scripture, a few words of hope and comfort, and a prayer of commendation, and may follow either immediately after the memorial service or take place at another time.

At Valley Presbyterian Church, memorial services are Christian worship services in the Presbyterian tradition—celebrations of the resurrection and the promise of new life in Christ. We seek to honor each person’s life with care and compassion, shaping the service to reflect their unique story and the wishes of their family. Our goal is to offer a worship experience that balances tradition with personal meaning, providing space for both remembrance and hope.
